Making Content Mobile

I remember my first mobile web browser. It was a sad little WAP browser with something like a 40×8 character display in my little flip phone. Pictures were few and far between and usually required a good squint.
If you read the future of mobile content and think back on WAP content versus the Playbooks, iPads and Android devices of today, the gap between the desktop, laptop, nettop and mobile device is narrowing. Indeed, the big difference is screen size. On my current smartphone, I need to zoom in and out to read some of my favorite blogs and sites.
So, think back to the early days of the web, before streaming video, before music services, before your laptop did a very good impersonation of your television. We will see that same evolution with mobile devices. Right now, my smartphone plays movies from Youtube. Sort of, usually. In the future, I’ll be carrying an immersive 3D experience.
